Day 1:  Organizing Cross-Battery Assessments for Intervention with Emphasis Son Differential Diagnosis of SLD presented by Dr. Dawn Flanagan

This workshop will begin with a summary of the most recent research on the relations between CHC cognitive abilities, neuropsychological processes and academic skills will be presented. How to use this research base to organize assessments and interpret results will be demonstrated. Several examples of the application of CHC theory and research in the schools will be presented, particularly within the context of the recently revised “cross-battery assessment for intervention” approach. Excerpts from case studies will be presented as a means of highlighting what practitioners can do when evidence-based interventions are not effective. Emphasis will be placed on differentially diagnosing SLD from other disorders. A psychometrically and theoretically defensible means of identifying a “pattern of strengths and weaknesses” that is consistent with SLD will be presented. Overall, this workshop will give practitioners an understanding of the latest research in CHC theory and Cross-Battery Assessment and provide examples of how to apply this research to a) identify students with SLD; and b) aid in selecting educational strategies and interventions for all students who struggle academically.

Day 2:  Writing an Integrated  Cross-Battery Process-based Assessment Report  presented by Dr. Donna Smith

Once a comprehensive FIE has been completed, the assessment specialists may be challenged by how to combine results from various domains, obtained by different evaluators, into a single, comprehensive, integrated report. This session will provide a framework for such a report, instruction in how to complete each section in a cohesive way, and step-by- step guidance that will assist participants in moving away from reporting scores to explaining results.

Lunch will be provided on both days.
