Performance-Based Assessments in Science: What can I learn from them?

Workshops in this course are designed to give teachers an overview of the state assessment program for science and the various ways to prepare and assess student mastery of the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills for Science.  See Class Notes for specific details of each workshop.

Performance-based assessments reflect authentic thinking and give students a context for the various skills they have been learning.  Teachers will learn how to incorporate performance-based assessments within their science instruction in order to assess student progress in both scientific concepts and processes.  We will review rubrics as a way to track and monitor student progress throughout the academic year and provide feedback to help students continue to improve.

Participants in the 2012-2013 ESC Region XIII Texas Regional Collaborative for Science should contact Jennifer Jordan-Kaszuba (jennifer.jordan.kaszuba@esc13.txed.net or 512- 919-5368).

During this workshop, we will be utilizing Project Share to collaborate with other participants and access resources after the workshop.  Please ensure you have access to your Project Share account.  If you are unsure of your login information, please visit https://www.epsilen.com/security/login.aspx and click  "I did not receive my account activation email."
