Fostering Literacy in the Early Childhood Classroom

Explore how to create a stronger Early Childhood program for the core content areas that inspires creativity and innovative learning for the young learner!

Participants will engage in interactive learning, create developmentally appropriate lesson ideas, and leave with strategies to engage young learners. Participants will receive a variety of materials and ideas to support hands-on learning in the Early Childhood classroom.

The ability to foster literacy instruction in the early childhood classroom begins by understanding the kinds of things that young children should be doing on a daily basis to support literacy development.

Topics will include the physical environment and creating a daily schedule that fosters literacy consistently throughout the instructional day.  An overview of the revised TX PreK Guidelines will also be included to address early literacy outcomes, standards and how to create a plan to help children meet those goals.

We will also be providing classroom examples from other Region 13 Mentor Teachers that will provide participants with a variety of activities and ideas that promote and foster literacy through a different opportunities such as Circle Time, Centers, and Small Group Instruction.

Note: This training is aligned to the Revised 2015 Texas Pre-K Guidelines.
