CANCELED: Teaching Quadratic Functions with STEM Technologies

In this series of workshops participants will increase science and math content knowledge through engaging hands-on explorations using innovative technology designed for the modern STEM classroom.

Description:

  • In this workshop participants will explore quadratic functions and projectile motion through an engaging STEM context.
  • Prepare to design your own catapult to reach various specific target(s).  Participants will be using a program to design a catapult arm that will propel an object at a target and explore the concepts.
  • Participants will walk away with kit to create a catapult base of their own and a 3-D printed catapult arm created and designed by their group during the workshop.
  • Participants will receive resources to implement this PBL unit with students, including an interactive notebook with blackline masters.

Objective:  How does the arm length of the catapult effect the domain and range, maximum height, displacement, and the eventual calculated quadratic equation.
