Drug and Alcohol Use in Teens: Prevention and Intervention

The At-Risk Services Network is designed to keep school personnel up-to-date and informed on best practices related to at-risk students. The network will provide the opportunity for school personnel from all areas to keep informed, share information and resources, and build a network of support with other campuses and districts.

Drug and alcohol use in children and adolescents have significant impacts on brain development, physical development, social interactions, and academic success. Once considered a problem among teenagers, we are now seeing a younger average age of first use. This workshop will look at current trends in drug and alcohol use, signs and symptoms of use, and the most commonly used substances. Strategies and resources for prevention and intervention will also be shared.

The workshop will be led by Drug Recognition Experts from Sam Houston State University's Impaired Driving Initiative using their DITEP (Drug Impaired Training for Education Professionals) curriculum.

Trainings within the At-Risk Services Network are free for districts with At-Risk Services Network membership. Non-members may also register for this workshop.
