Using trade books as anchors in bilingual and sheltered instruction classrooms

Using the resource, The Literacy Club: Effective Instruction and Intervention for Linguistically Diverse Learners, as a guide we will learn more about providing our bilingual students with literacy guidance using instructional strategies that are scaffolded, differentiated, and focused on developing the language domains of listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Participants will have the opportunity to delve more into the importance of meaningful context for literacy development, building on what students already know and can do linguistically and culturally, and providing intensive instruction in areas identified by formative and summative assessment.
