Overview:

Anita Archer and Charles Hughes's Explicit Instruction: Effective and Efficient Teaching is a research-based instructional approach that empowers teachers to deliver instruction to diverse groups of learners. The Workshops in this course will explore how to design and deliver scaffolded lessons that are organized for active participation as well as effective and efficient classroom manaement with mastery learning as the ultimate goal.

  • Indeed, one of the most enduring findings in reading research is the extent to which students’ vocabulary knowledge relates to their reading comprehension.  (Osborn & Hiebert, 2004)
  • Direct vocabulary instruction has an impressive track record of improving students’ background knowledge and comprehension of academic content. (Marzano, 2001, p. 69)
  • There is an notable .97 effect size for direct teaching of vocabulary related to content. (Stahl & Fairbanks, 1986)

  • How do I know if I am registered for a workshop?


    Once you have logged into E-Campus, you may go to your Current Workshop List to see the workshops for which you are registered.
    Your status is listed as ACTIVE if you are registered for a workshop.

    In addition, you will receive a confirmation email to the email address associated with your E-Campus account.  If you do not receive an email, you may not be registered, or your email address is incorrect or out of date.

    It is your responsibility to keep your E-Campus account up to date with current contact and district information.

  • What if I forget my username or password?


    To recover a username or password, click the Forgot Password link on the E-Campus login page.

    Begin by entering the email address associated with your E-Campus account and then click Next.

    If a match is found, your username and a temporary password will be sent to your email address. Return to the E-Campus login page and use the information provided. Once logged in you will have a chance to update your password and enter a password reminder phrase.

    If no match is found you will be asked to try another email address. At this time you may also click Help to fill out a username and password recovery request form.

    If it is found that your email address matches more than one E-Campus account, you will be asked for your username. At this time you may also click Help to fill out a username and password recovery request form.

    Username and password recovery requests are handled by humans, not a computer. Our staff development helpdesk is available Monday through Friday, 8:00am-4:30pm.

     

    If you have ever been registered for a Region XIII workshop, you have an account.  If you think you already have an account please do not create a new account.  Contact us and we will be happy to provide you with your login information.

  • Do I need an email address to use E-Campus?


    Yes.  A unique email address is required to use the E-Campus system.  The email address on your account should be one that you are able to access.  Confirmations, receipts, cancelation notices, and other important communication with you regarding workshops will be sent to the email address associated with your account.

  • How do I cancel from a workshop I have registered for?


    Once logged into the E-Campus system, navigate to the Current Workshop List.  For the workshop you wish to cancel, click the CANCEL button to right side of your screen.  If you do not see a CANCEL button, you must contact the staff development helpdesk to cancel.  Email your request to questions@esc13.net.

    In order to cancel without being charged for the workshop you must cancel at least 5 business days prior to the workshop.

  • Where can I get help using the E-Campus system and catalog?


    Online help is available though the Help menu on the main toolbar.  You can also contact the Region XIII Staff Development helpdesk at questions@esc13.net.

    Our staff development helpdesk is available Monday through Friday, 8:00am-4:30pm.

  • What's the process for paying for workshops.


    For workshops that require payment, you must provide payment at the time of registration.  We cannot process a registration without valid payment.

    If you are paying by purchase order you must enter a valid purchase order number in the appropriate field during the checkout process. Invoices will be mailed after the start of the workshop.  Please DO NOT send check payment until an invoice has been sent to you.

    If you are paying by credit card you must enter your credit card information in the appropriate fields during the checkout process.

    Please note - registrations with invalid Purchase Order numbers are subject to cancelation.

     

     

  • How do I find what workshops are available from Region 13?


    You may browse the E-Campus catalog even if you are not logged in.  Visit http://ecampus.esc13.net and click the CATALOG button at the top left of the page.

    To register, you must be logged in with your E-Campus account.  If you are logged in, browsing the catalog is simple.  Click the COURSE CATALOG link on the left side of the page and then choose SEARCH THE CATALOG.

  • Do Co-Op members or Grant participants pay full price for workshops?


    You will need to check with your district coop coordinator or grants coordinator regarding your district’s agreement with Region XIII.  In most cases, a discount code will be provided to you for use during the check out process.

  • Where can I see the details about a workshop?


    Each workshop has a description and information page in the E-Campus catalog, including workshop summary, meeting dates and times, location, price, and available seats.  You will also be able to see who the presenter is and if any credit hours are available for the workshop.

  • Where will the workshop be held?


    Each workshop in the E-campus catalog field has a location listed. Click on the location that is listed and an online map will be provided for you.

    Please note that not all workshops take place at the Region XIII location.

    Also, note that some workshops may be offered online, as videoconferences, or as online webinars.  Please pay close attention to the type of workshop you are registering for.

  • When will this workshop be held again?


    You may browse the catalog to see if a workshop is being offered again at a future date.

  • What are the technical specifications and minimum system requirements for my computer for me to be able to use E-Campus and access online courses through E-Campus?

  • How do I navigate once I have logged into my online workshop?


    Each online workshop may operate a little differently.  Most will offer a page of information or tips for navigating that particular course.

  • Will food be provided at the workshop?


    As a general rule food is not provided at Region XIII workshops. You may check with the contact person listed in the catalog or review the workshop descriptor.

    You can also visit the Region 13 Grill from 11am to 1:30pm Monday through Friday.

  • Can I bring my child with me to a workshop?


    No.
    ESC Region XIII does not provide childcare services. The programs and staff development offered are for the adult learner. Please do not bring children or pets (other than service dogs) to workshops.

  • How do I log out of E-Campus?


    At the top of your browser window you will have a LOGOUT button on the menu bar at the top right.

    Please note that E-Campus will automatically log you out after 45 minutes of inactivity.
