Strategy Heading

The Explicit Instruction Institute will have the following focuses:

Day 1 | Lesson Design that Promotes Classroom Management:

Lesson Design that Promotes Classroom Management explores the foundations of Explicit Instruction, designing organized lessons focused on strategies, skills, and content, as well as pacing of lessons. You will also learn how the organization of the classroom and methods for teaching routines and rules sets the stage for delivering lessons in a way that promotes learning. You will look at how to make your classroom climate both orderly and positive—valuable tools for veteran teachers and coaches mentoring other teachers as well as for the novice teacher.

Day 2 | Active Participation that Improves Classroom Management:

Active Participation that Improves Classroom Management focuses on the “art of teaching”. You will discover how to explicitly choose and teach vocabulary, and how to deliver organized lessons focused on student engagement for all students while maintaining a brisk pace. According to Dr. Archer, “If instruction is truly interactive and students are constantly responding, then attention, on-task behavior, and learning increase, and behavioral challenges decrease.”

Day 3 | Explicit Assessment that Supports Classroom Management:

Explicit Assessment that Supports Classroom Management - Practice, practice, practice. This is not always the first choice of human beings, and/yet if initial instruction is not yoked to judicious practice (I do, We do, You do), skills will not be retained. In this session, you will discover best practices for implementing well-designed, distributed and cumulative practice. You will also learn how to assess student learning through careful monitoring using corrective and affirmative feedback, while maintaining an orderly and positive classroom.

Each participant will receive a copy of Explicit Instruction: Effective and Efficient Teaching, by Dr. Anita L. Archer, PhD. and Dr. Charles A. Hughes, PhD.
