Strategic Instruction: Possible Selves - Nurturing Student Motivation

Learn how you can use Strategic Instruction to ensure all students learn and are engaged in the learning. By thinking about the impact of your teaching, you will understand learning through the eyes of the student. The Region 13 specialists on the Strategic Instruction team create presentations and learning opportunities for teachers to plan strategic instruction designed to maximize their impact on learning.

Designing instruction for student enagement will help teachers plan lessons that are filled with purposeful discussions and activities centered on the learning expectations. Participants will learn how to get to know their students a little better, create an "intentionally inviting learning environment, and how to value student voice in the classroom.

Research shows that students need a sense of hope and agency---knowing the pathway to success--to reach their future goals.Your engaging instruction and classroom culture can provide both. It can give them a motivation to learn.

Leading students to be motivated to do what we want them to do and working toward a positive future can be challenging. The Possible Selves Program is designed to increase student motivation by having students examine their future and think about goals that are important to them. They set goals, create plans, and work toward their goals as part of the program and as a result work toward their possible self. The workshops will give participants structured activities to build motivation through Possible Selves.
