1/26/09 Cold War - After World War II, the
United States
and the
Soviet Union
were at ideological crossroads. The
United States
emerged after World War II as the only country
possessing the atomic bomb. The Soviets soon followed. A new era-The
Cold War- began with a new form of expansionism, militarism, and
nationalism emerging. The
United States
aggressively began its aggressive ideological crusade
to contain communism both domestically and globally. This "Cold War"
continued for about fifty years until the collapse of the Berlin Wall
in 1989 and the fall of the
Soviet Union
in 1990.
