The Unlicensed Diabetic Care Assistant (UDCA) training meets House Bill (HB) 984. The bill mandates for training, requiring schools to provide consistency for the care of students with diabetes in Texas. HB 984 mandates:
- If school has a full time School Nurse, the principal shall make efforts to have at least one trained UDCA (this is in addition to the nurse).
- On campuses that do not have a full time School Nurse assigned, the principal shall make efforts to have at least 3 UDCAs assigned. Extra-curricular sponsors that have students with diabetes are included on the HB 984 mandate.
