Math Instruction for All
Teaching Math to Students with Significant Cognitive Disabilities

Studies have shown that students with significant cognitive disabilities CAN learn how to do math. Math skills can open doors to new interests, higher learning, and even better job opportunities. However, teachers often struggle to develop mathematics lessons that work for the various needs in their special-education classrooms. Math Instruction for All is here to help. We will explore the latest evidence-based tools to help you teach meaningful math to all students. From exploring objects to solving complex word problems, your students will master the skills needed to take the next step in their math journey.

In this course you will learn how to:

  • teach numeracy skills to students of all ages and abilities
  • help students explore with their "mathematical senses"
  • select the right strategies from the math “teaching toolbox"
  • develop engaging and fun math lessons for any learner
  • give your students the best chance to succeed in math
  • and much more!
In addition, teachers working in Region 13 schools and charters will receive a classroom math learning kit with supplies to help jump-start their teaching.

This course will be a combination of live Zoom meetings, and self-paced instruction online via Canvas.
