STAAR Writing: Designing a K-12 Writing Curriculum
ELAR TEKS Alignment

Join me for an in-depth look at the newly adopted RLA TEKS to create a systemic approach to teaching writing skills across all grade levels. How do we ensure all students receive cohesive and organzied instruction in writing skills in order to generate skilled and confident writers at graduation?

Participants will engage in interactive learning with school and district leaders unpacking the RLA  Composition TEKS to identify the scaffolding of writing skills at each grade and to generate a integrated reading and writing curriculum. Ideally, a district will send a team of curriculum leaders to collaborate on a district writing curriculum, and a discount will be offered for those teams. By the end of the workshop, you will leave with a foundational writing skills scope and sequence and a writing articulation guide template with identified grade level texts for writing responses. Teams will continue building their K-12 writing curriculum for their district based upon the work done in the workshop.

The writing curriculum development workshop will be facilitated by Mary Black, a literacy specialist who taught RLA in classsrooms with diverse student populations and guided district-wide implementation of an aligned writing curriculum.
