HCSI 2021 Individual Recorded Session: Responding to Non-suicidal Self-Injury among Students

Learn the essential, evidence-based knowledge and skills needed to help support youth in your schools who engage in non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI). Based on current research and best practices, this workshop will provide participants with a foundational understanding of NSSI, how it differs from yet relates to suicide, and why youth engage in this behavior. Issues related to social contagion and the question of whether NSSI is a youth-epidemic will be addressed. After ensuring all have a basic understanding of NSSI among youth, the workshop will review some key assessment areas to address, and discuss how to consider NSSI behaviors within IDEA evaluations. The session will finish with a brief review of some practical intervention strategies to use with students in the school to help manage NSSI. Participant active engagement and questions are expected and encouraged throughout the session.

This is a recorded session from the Hill Country Summer Institute 2021 conference, which may be viewed anytime between 6/21/21 through 8/2/21.  This recorded session has a short quiz following the recording in order to give asynchronous credit.
