CANCELED - Workshop Model in the Secondary Reading/Language Arts Classroom
This session has been canceled. Please check with the workshop contact for more details or reschedule options.

Is this you?

  • Maybe you’ve wanted to “try workshop model” but never knew quite where to begin.

  • Maybe you’ve taken the courageous leap into actually implementing workshop model into your classroom, but experienced some bumps and bruises along the way.

  • Maybe you’ve established workshop model as a classroom structure and culture, but want to add to your repertoire by learning new strategies and hearing from your RLA colleagues.

In a year where students and teachers are expected to accelerate learning at a challenging pace, the workshop model for the secondary RLA classroom can be the solution to honor students’ diverse levels of reading and writing skills, as well as the stories and histories they bring to the classroom.

In this experiential workshop, participants will learn how to apply a workshop model to their existing classroom structure, including:

  • anchoring the workshop model through the use of reader’s/writer’s notebook.

  • implementing peer and teacher conferences to develop the writer, not just the writing.

  • integrating student choice and voice within the Workshop Model.

  • utilizing mentor text to imitate genre characteristics.

Participants will have time built into the workshop for planning in order to incorporate the strategies learned into lesson plans.
