Want to give your students a once in a lifetime writing experience?

Bring your class with you to Region 13 and engage in a powerful writing workshop! 

Region 13 is proud to host award winning children’s author Christina Soontornvat. Christina has written numerous children's books, including two Newbery Honor Books- A Wish In The Dark and All Thirteen. 

Region 13 has partnered with Christina to engage and excite young writers by sharing her own experiences from idea to published texts. Your class will have the opportunity to learn directly from Christina and ask her their own questions about her craft. Participating teachers will receive two of the author's text to add to their classroom library.

STEP #1:

Prior to the Author Visit, you will engage in your own learning through a self-paced asynchronous online course. Learning will focus on high-impact writing strategies that promote critical thinking and elevate students’ voice and promote creativity. As you learn, you will be asked to complete artifacts and reflection to show implementation of your learning. 

The asynchronous course will run from 12/1/2021 to 2/14/2022.
You must complete the self-paced course to earn spots for your students to join us. 

STEP #2

After completing the course, you will have the opportunity to bring up to 25 students to Region 13 to meet and learn from Christina Soontornvat. Author visit is February 23rd, 2022. Sessions are one hour in length; starting at either 10:00 am or 12:30 p.m. ZOOM session is at 1:45.

Participating schools will need to cover the cost of student transportation to the ESC or can participate via ZOOM.
