The Fall 2010 Dyslexia Conference keynote speaker is Dr. Maryanne Wolf, a nationally renowned educator/researcher in the field of reading development, neurocognitive science, and dyslexia from Tuft University's "The Center for Reading and Language Research", and author of "Proust and the Squid". Please click on the Presenter field below for more detailed biographical information.
This presentation will use research from the cognitive neurosciences and linguistics to present the history of how the human brain learned to read. The implications of this information for how we look at reading development and reading problems will be discussed in terms of a new conceptualization for dyslexia, its diagnosis, and its intervention. The importance of understanding the contributions of multiple cognitive and linguistic components in the formation of reading will be emphasized. Finally, the implications of this evolving view of the reading brain for the next digitally immersed generation of readers will be considered.
Breakout sessions will include information regarding assessment of bilingual students (Spanish and English), matching interventions, and establishment and sustainability of dyslexia services (including services for English Language Learners) within a tiered approach to intervention. Other breakout sessions include "6 Syllable Patterns in 5 Minutes Per Day" and Assistive Technology for Struggling Readers.
Lunch will be provided. Vendor exhibits and door prizes of education materials will be included.
