Meet Me at the Museum: The National Museum of the Pacific War

Region XIII Social Studies Education Specialist, Rachel Hernandez, invites you to join her at various museums in the Region XIII area!

The National Museum of the Pacific War, Fredericksburg, Texas

**Teachers: Our group will meet in front of the Nimitz Hotel on Main Street @ 10 a.m.  If you have difficulty finding the group, contact Rachel at 210.286.5179.

Teachers will be treated to a morning of living history, followed by an in-depth guided museum tour by the in museum's expert Education Coordinator, Richard Koone. This amazing museum has undergone a multi-million dollar renovation that now boasts a 6-acre campus, education center, and modern exhibition dedicated to the complex, difficult and ultimately inspiring story of America's war in the Pacific and China-Burma-India Theaters during World War II. Come see the new George H.W. Bush Gallery featuring 40 media installations, 900 artifacts in 97 climate-controlled cases, 15 macro-artifacts, and hundreds of historic photographs. Lesson plans based on the new TEKS will be shared.

Additionally, high school U.S. History teachers attending the workshop will receive the Region XIII U.S. History Social Studies TEKS Planner - a $45.00 value. This is a no cost workshop - museum entrance is free to all Social Studies teachers attending.  (T(

(Teachers from the ESC Region XX area or any other ESC area are welcome to attend.)

This is a Core Professional Development - Core Professional Development is valuable for new teachers, teachers who are changing teaching assignments and teachers who are developing skills in a particular professional development pathway. It is also valuable when TEKS are revised.
