3-5 Home on the Range: Rangelands - A Conservation Education Guide

Welder Wildlife Foundation is providing free one day field based workshops on its new Rangelands curriculum.  Workshop participants will receive the complete field and lab based conservation education curriculum guide.  The Rangeland guide contains 27 student-centered lessons using hands-on, real world science and social studies investigations. The curriculum focuses on science and integrates Social Studies, while utilizing language arts and math skills.  All applicable TEKS, from the four core contents, are documented with each lesson.

  • Building Professional Development extends; the learning experiences are designed to build upon core knowledge and practices experienced teachers have.  Workshops continue to focus on high quality Tier 1 instruction and some Tier 2 intervention with supporting instructional strategies and may connect disciplines and the instructional strategies that support this integration.

Come take part in science investigations, field based learning experiences, games, and computer activities to make science and social studies more interesting and understandable for students. This free workshop for 3-5th grade teachers will be held at Region XIII. The workshop uses an integrated supplemental curriculum guide developed by Welder Wildlife Foundation to help teach students the importance of conservation.

The curriculum focuses on science and integrates social studies, and uses language arts and math skills. All new core content TEKS are documented with each activity.  Lessons include investigations of soil, water, plants, wildlife, ecology, and stewardship. Participating teachers will receive the complete curriculum guide with 27 student-centered lessons with 3-8 activities in each lesson.  These lessons use hands-on, real life, science and social studies skills and provide activities for multiple intelligences.  Lessons embed higher order thinking skills, provide depth and complexity of learning and suggest ways to develop tiered tasks for all ability levels.  Students demonstrate learning through creative products and performances. All lessons use inexpensive materials and area easy to use. Teachers will receive CPE credit and the workshop is eligible for district G/T credit.
