Matter and Energy for (3-5)

This series of professional learning opportunities blends the world of instruction directly with the world of state assessments.  Identifying and focusing on tested Readiness and Supporting standards, participants will also identify the vertical alignment and conceptual understandings within each reporting category as well as best practices to support student learning.  Concepts will be introduced, experienced, and discussed through hands-on, collaborative, and varied experiences.

These learning opportunities are appropriate for classroom teachers, special education teachers, science enrichment teachers, instructional coaches, bilingual and ELL teachers, gifted/talented teachers, teacher leaders and anyone interested in gaining more knowledge and experience with the TEKS found within the Elementary Science STAAR reporting categories.

Participants do not have to attend all series workshops.  They may choose the workshops that best meet their needs; each workshop has a separate registration.

These sessions are Core Professional Development.

  • Core Professional Development is considered foundational. The learning experiences are designed to be introductory in nature. Workshops focus on high quality Tier 1 instruction and some Tier 2 intervention with supporting instructional strategies.
  • Core Professional Development is valuable for new teachers, teachers who are changing teaching assignments and teachers who are developing skills in a particular professional development pathway. It is also valuable when TEKS are revised.

Please note the location of this workshop is at the Joe Thompson Conference Center.

This workshop focuses on Reporting Category 1: Matter and Energy for Grades 3-5.

Participants in the 2011-2012 ESC Region XIII Texas Regional Collaborative for Science should use their discount code to ensure that credit hours are properly documented.
