This Basic 16 hour course will provide individuals with the certification that meets criteria for safe restraint and proactive intervention in the state of Texas.
SAMA (Satori Alternatives for Managing Aggression) meets all critical attributes as defined in TBSI (Texas Behavior Support Initiative) for verbal and physical de-escalation. SAMA teaches least restrictive, safe ways to help manage a student in crisis until the student can regain control. It is part of the SAMA philosophy that is it easier to prevent behavior from occurring by using positive, proactive interventions.
The SAMA program focuses on preventing aggression from becoming physically harmful. The emphasis of the course is on using the Assisting Process in all interactions and is demonstrated in all four programs.
The four programs are:
- Principles and Assisting Process
- Protection of Self and Others
- Containment
- Object Retrieval
Participants should dress comfortably, especially day two. Keep in mind that you will be bending, turning and sitting on the ground at times. (Sweatpants/sneakers are acceptable)Participants should have completed TBSI training as appropriate.
