Strategic Instruction Model®(SIM) Learning Strategies are Tier II and III research-based interventions that address different strands of literacy skills. SIM strives to ensure that students can learn and perform independently on grade level, earn a high school diploma, and  make a successful transition to real world literacy demands. Every Learning Strategy is structured with a pre-test, practice sheets, progress monitoring, and instructions for generalizing the strategy to the general education setting.    The Sentence Writing, Paragraph Writing, and Theme Writing strategies work beautifully together to improve a student's writing skills, however each of these are powerful on their own.  Expect significant improvement in the achievement of struggling writers.   This is not a Training of Trainers. All professional development must be presented by a SIM professional development consultant certified by the University of Kansas Center for Research on Learning.

The Fundamentals in Sentence Writing Strategy is a complete program designed to teach students the basics of how to write a simple sentence in a step-by-step lesson-based format. Once students have mastered how to write the four types of simple sentences, they are then ready to move to Proficiency of Sentence Writing. Proficiency teaches students how to move from simple sentences to writing compound, complex, and compound/complex sentence types.

Participants receive two instructor's manuals, two student manuals with permission to copy, a CD of student materials, plus all workshop materials.

This is not a "Training of Trainers" workshop. To ensure the fidelity of these methods a SIM certification from the University of Kansas is required in order to provide professional development.
