This is an assessment institute for Educational Diagnosticians, Licensed Specialist in School Psychology and Speech Language Pathologists. This institute will address second language learning, litigation and legislation, best practice in Bilingual Special Education Evaluation, FIE report writing and the ARD/IEP Meeting
Location: JJ Pickle Research Center
Day 1: Foundation - This day will cover second language learning, the impact of special language programming on English language development, native language attrition, and influence of socioeconomic factors on oral language development and literacy as well as litigation and legislation.
Day 2: Best Practices in Bilingual Special Education Evaluation - Day two will address availability of test instruments in other languages, the evaluation process, use of interpreters and the primary/ancillary examiner approach in testing, and interpretation of test results.
Day 3: FIE Report Writing & the ARD/IEP Meeting - Sample bilingual FIE reports will be reviewed and participants will be provided "Blurbs" to use in the FIE reports and ARD/IEP forms.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Participants may not attend day 3 only. They must attend day 1, day 2 or both in order to attend the third day. Registration for these options can be found in the Region 13 e-campus catalog.
