CAFE is a system of strategies to support the goals of reading comprehension. This course will support teachers implementing small group reading structures in providing tools to engage students and understandings about flexible grouping.
*This course is an offering of Region 13 and not an official offering by The Two Sisters, the creators of the Daily 5.
The Literacy CAFE™ System helps students understand and master the four key components of successful reading: Comprehension, Accuracy, Fluency, and Expanding Vocabulary. The CAFE Menu breaks each component into significant strategies that support each skill. Learn how to assess, instruct, and monitor student progress using this system. You will acquire tools for constructing group and individual lessons that provide just-in-time instruction, ensuring that all students reach their potential.
The CAFE System is delivered through the structure and framework of The Daily 5, which builds behaviors of independence and stamina. It is advised that participants are using the Daily 5 structure or have attended a prior Daily 5 workshop.
Participants will receive The CAFE Book: Engaging All Students in Daily Literacy Assessment and Instruction by Gail Boushey and Joan Moser
