Fundations is a K-3 early prevention and intervention word study program that integrates the 5 components of effective reading instruction:

phonemic awareness
phonics
fluency
vocabulary
comprehension

It is most effective when used for core word study instruction, and when readers struggle with basic reading skills, as an additional 30 minutes intervention lesson. Teachers receive lifetime access to the Wilson Prevention Learning Community Resources, which includes FREE downloadable materials for Progress Monitoring of beginning reading skills that correlate with the Level K and Level 1 scope and sequence of beginning reading skills. In this workshop, participants will be introduced to Level 1 as a component to First Grade Language Arts curriculum and/or as an intervention for students who struggle with development of letter/sound knowledge, single word decoding, spelling, and handwriting. Reading components of vocabulary and comprehension are included within Fundations, but need to be combined with literature-based classroom curriculum/instruction. The Level 1 scope and sequence is compatible with TEKS phonics, spelling, and handwriting Student Expectations for 1st grade.

Training materials are provided, but participants are encouraged to bring Teacher Manuals to the training. Instructional materials are purchased directly through Wilson Language Training.
