Fundations is a K-3 early prevention and intervention word study program that integrates the 5 components of effective reading instruction:
- phonemic awareness
- phonics
- fluency
- vocabulary
- comprehension
In this workshop, participants will be introduced to Level K and Level 1 as a phonics component of a Kindergarten or First Grade Language Arts Curriculum, and as an intervention for students who struggle with development of letter/sound knowledge, single word decoding, spelling, and handwriting. Reading components of vocabulary and comprehension are integrated into the curriculum of Fundations, but strategies need to be combined with literature-based classroom curriculum. The Level K and Level 1 scope and sequences are compatible with the state ELA student expectation standards for Kindergarten and 1st Grade, and are supporting standards for older students.
Teachers need to bring their own copies of Level K or Level 1 Teacher Manuals to receive the greatest benefit from this day of training; however, Region 13 provides sample sections of the Teacher Manual to facilitate the training. Instructional materials must be purchased directly through Wilson Language Training's online catalog. (Click on live link.)
