The focus of our 2nd Annual institute is assessment and instruction. This institute is designed to help all educators who are looking for ways to enhance instruction for second language learners in grades PK-12. The keynote speaker will be Ervin Knezek with an update of TAKS LEP scores and recommendations for improvement. All sessions will emphasize the importance of meeting the linguistic, affective and cognitive needs of students as specified by Chapter 89 of the Commissioner's Rules for Educating LEP Students.Topics include ESL Strategies, Bilingual Instruction, Incorporating Culture, Special Education, Bilingual/ESL Resources and much more. Dr. Alba Ortiz will present a special session on English Languague Learners with special education needs. All participants will receive a copy of her new book, English Language Learners with special education needs: Identification, assessment, and instruction.Vendors will display Bilingual/ESL resources that are currently available for use in Bilingual/ESL/ and Title III Programs. The Institute will be a conference syle format with break-out sessions. Lunch will be provided.
