Elementary Math: Instructional Considerations to Activate Purposeful Planning (ICAPP) - Addressing the Gaps from Unfinished Learning to Maximize Current Grade Level Learning

This workshop is intended for TEKS Resource System Clients.

With school closures and students transitioning in and out of virtual learning, many of us are wondering how to address the possible learning gaps for our elementary math students. What are the gaps? How do we find them? How can we make a plan to address these gaps?

The purpose of the Instructional Considerations to Activate Purposeful Planning (ICAPP) resource is to address potential gaps from unfinished learning in order to maximize current grade level learning and enhance the planning process. Analyzing the big ideas of mathematics and prior knowledge expectations allows teachers to intentionally target instruction that moves students forward in learning while addressing possible unfinished learning and/or clarifying misconceptions in order to improve and reinforce student learning.

In this course, you will:

  • understand the intention of the framework of the Instructional Considerations to Activate Purposeful Planning (ICAPP) resource
  • learn how to read and use the ICAPP resource
  • use the TEKS RS (ICAPP) resource to identify gaps and spiral content
  • map to 2021-2022 Units of Study, and make a plan to address learning gaps
