Group Counseling Strategies- Secondary

Come join Dr. Jacqueline Spiller for an interactive workshop that will equip secondary school counselors with practical sensory-based strategies and activities that can be easily incorporated in small group counseling sessions with secondary students within a school setting. The purpose of this workshop is to provide participants with practical strategies, games, tools, resources, activities, ideas and interventions to utilize in group settings with adolescents in grades 6-12. 

In this workshop Dr. Spiller will cover the following objectives: 

  1. Counselors will participate in utilizing a provided template to create and design psychoeducational/support groups to implement in school settings.

  2. Counselors will practice interventions and tools in small groups with colleagues.

  3. Counselors will engage with other participants in discussions to process the successes and challenges they have experienced in leading groups; barriers in conducting groups; fears or resistance about group leadership; and, share questions about group work.

  4. Counselors will learn how to avoid common mistakes in groups with secondary students

More about Dr. Jacqueline Spiller: 

Dr. Jacqueline Spiller, LPC, LCDC, NCC is the owner of Clutch Counseling in Austin, Texas, where she provides person-centered, strengths-based counseling services to teens, adults, families, and groups. Her current research interests include motivational interviewing, group counseling pedagogy and supervision, and ethical and legal issues in group counseling training. She sustains membership in multiple professional counseling associations and enjoys presenting at state, regional, and national conferences. She conducts workshops for school counselors, counselors serving inpatient populations and other groups to strengthen their ability to successfully and confidently lead groups in their setting.
