Independent Early Writing: Do This, Not That! - On Demand 2022

If you are a life skills teacher wondering how to support writing skills for students who have moved just beyond scribbling and now use strings/groups of letters and "prewords," this session is for you.

This webinar will review the importance of and steps for an effective instructional routine for independent early writing. Too often students with significant disabilities are over-supported using pictures, word banks, hand over hand, and other ineffective strategies. Our students must be provided proper instruction to become generative writers! Using Writer's Workshop principles, evidence-based strategies, and appropriate accommodations, your updated writing block will become your favorite part of the day.

  • Participants will review typical writing development and applications to students with significant disabilities.
  • Participants will analyze an independent early writing instructional routine.
  • Participants will be able to update an independent writing lesson plan.

Please note: This is a recurring course, repeating on an annual basis.
