Steve Barkley Lunch & Learn Series- Coaching, Facilitating, and Leading with Questions (Spring 2023)

ESC -13 is partnering with Steve Barkley to bring instructional coaching support through a series of Lunch and Learn engagements. The series, each made up of three one- hour sessions, is complete on its own and aligns with each other to create a year-long learning opportunity. Each one-hour session will provide for exchanges with other coaches and Steve’s responses to your questions. Participants will also be able to submit questions or current scenarios in advance for Steve to address during the Lunch and Learn session.

District staff supporting principals and coaches can plan debriefing sessions following the Lunch and Learn sessions to extend the application of possibilities within your system.

Those registered will be able to access a video of a session if attendance in the live session was not possible.

Coaching, Facilitating, and Leading with Questions - Spring 2023

“Leading means creating communication that has an impact. Questions increase our impact when they result in new solutions and development. The conscious examination of the questioner’s attitude and of the questioning process leads to increased leadership effectiveness.” (USPLeadership Experts)

There is a strong connection between questioning and learning. Teachers’ questions can engage and model thinking processes that students develop to promote their own learning. Those coaching teachers need to practice the same questioning processes.

Explore a questioning protocol that you can use to guide your work facilitating learning in coaching conversations and PLC settings.  Uncovering perceptions, perspectives, and assumptions is key to building coaching and PLC conversations that are opportunity-focused rather than fear focused. Plan questions for an upcoming facilitation or coaching and receive feedback.
