The webinar that will be viewed was created by the Child Find, Evaluation, and ARD Support Statewide Technical Assistance Network in collaboration with the Texas Education Agency with state and federal grants.
This webinar summarizes the amendments to 19 Texas Administrative Code (TAC) Chapter §89.1040(c)(9) and eligibility criteria for specific learning disability (SLD); identifies the key update to the Texas Dyslexia Handbook 2021 related to evaluation; states the evaluation procedures for dyslexia as a specific learning disability under federal and state law; reviews the required and additional data to gather and interpret for an evaluation for dyslexia; and outlines the role of the multidisciplinary team to review data for the determination of dyslexia as a specific learning disability.
The second part of this workshop will be an opportunity for participants to apply the concepts from the webinar to their practice. As a group the participants will discuss how to design an evaluation, from selecting measures, to determining who will assess specific skill constructs, to group analysis and report writing. Embedded in this process will be instruction on key concepts regarding dyslexia and dyslexia evaluation.
This workshop is facilitated by both an IDEA Evaluator and a Dyslexia Evaluator/Specialist to bring a comprehensive approach to the topic of an SLD evaluation for Dyslexia.
