“Language shapes the way we think, and determines what we can think about.”

Learn how to design comprehensive lessons that you can effectively integrate in the classroom to support the English language development of Emergent Bilingual students.
Designed with Emergent Bilingual students in mind, the ELPS Toolkit is a comprehensive resource for creating content-specific language objectives. We are tasked with providing Emergent Bilingual students with an opportunity to learn and succeed academically in English. ELPS Toolkit addresses this task and illustrates concepts aligned with the components of Sheltered Instruction, including building vocabulary and concept knowledge.
To ensure that classroom instruction meets the individual academic and linguistic needs of Emergent Bilingual students, participants will engage in interactive activities and create developmentally-appropriate language objectives aimed at addressing the four language domains: listening, speaking, reading and writing. As a participant, you will leave with resources and video examples to support the instructional needs of Emergent Bilingual students.
