Region 13's E-Campus

This three-day professional development series is designed to equip K-12 math teachers with the foundational practices necessary to create engaging, student-centered learning environments known as "thinking classrooms." Based on Peter Liljedahl's research, this workshop will focus on the 14 optimal practices from the Building Thinking Classrooms framework. 

Each day of the series will focus on a specific toolkit.

• Toolkit 1: Getting Students to Think
• Toolkit 2: Creating Community
• Toolkit 3: Teaching with Building Thinking Classrooms (BTC).
   

What participants will learn during this series:

1. The core principles and 14 optimal practices of the "Building Thinking Classrooms" framework, including how to create a classroom environment that fosters critical thinking and engagement in mathematics.
2. How to implement effective instructional strategies to encourage student autonomy and deeper understanding of mathematical concepts.
3. Practical techniques for selecting and designing rich mathematical tasks that promote exploration, discussion, and sustained thinking.
4. Methods to build a classroom culture where students feel comfortable taking risks, sharing ideas, and thinking critically about mathematics.
5. How to create and manage flexible groupings that promote collaborative learning and maximize participation and engagement from all students.
6. Strategies to encourage student perseverance in problem solving, including how to pose purposeful questions and support productive struggle.

Additional Information:

The one-time registration for the professional development will register you for all three days of the series. Credit hours will only be given for the days attended in this series.
