This self-directed online course meets the six hour professional development requirement for administrators and counselors who serve gifted students.

 

This course provides support and general information for administrators and counselors who oversee the gifted program at their campus.  This course can also be used as an introduction or refresher of current GT requirements for additional staff.  It also includes the required information related to the September 2024 legislative update.

The main objectives of the course include:

  1. Understanding the nature and needs of gifted students through an exploration of characteristics and behaviors of both traditional and non-traditional students.

  2. Understanding the social and emotional needs of gifted students.

  3. Identifying the criteria of the Texas State Plan for Gifted Students and how these standards guide program decisions.

  4. Alignment between the required Texas State Plan and current district and/or campus practices of the identification and assessment process.

  5. Understanding and preparing for the administrator/counselor's responsibilities of overseeing a campus GT program.
