Evaluating ‘’Specific” Specific Learning Disabilities using a Pattern of Strengths and Weaknesses Model: Dyslexia

Join us for an updated session on best practices for identifying dyslexia with the recent changes and updates to the 2024 Texas Dyslexia Handbook. With the requirements under new state laws, the Texas Education Agency's Specific Learning Disability Identification Guidance, and the implications of the new Dyslexia Handbook, evaluators have been challenged to question their current practices. This session will clarify these changes, enhance competence, and boost confidence. We will discuss norm-referenced test selection using a PSW model and alternative reasons why students may struggle with reading.

This session will be presented by Dr. Edward K. Schultz.

Dr. Schultz is the founder and architect of the C-SEP. He is currently a Professor of Special Education at Midwestern State University (MSU). In addition to preparing educational diagnosticians at MSU, he has written numerous peer-reviewed articles concerning SLD identification, conduct training across the country and has worked with state departments of education.
