Calling all new special education teachers as we dive into all things special education to ensure you are confident and comfortable as you begin your teaching journey. This course is an exploration of fundamentals for new teachers or teachers who are new to special education.
The New Teacher Cohort will consist of six half-day Zoom sessions held throughout the spring semester.
This course also includes a two-day Standards-Based IEP Process Training. Once you complete your New Teacher Era registration, you must select and register for one of the following face-to-face sessions.

Join us to discover practical tips and tools to thrive in your first year, including data collection methods, co-teaching techniques, mastering education lingo, implementing Universal Design for Learning to meet the needs of all students, creating effective accommodations and modifications, setting up an organized and structured classroom, balancing your teaching and case manager duties. You'll leave feeling confident and prepared to rock your first year as an educator.
This course includes in-classroom coaching, check-ins, and office hours.
This course will include the TEA Standards-Based Individualized Education Program (IEP) Process Training. The focus is developing present levels of academic achievement and functional performance (PLAAFP) based on student data, drafting annual goals (academic and/or functional) and objectives, if appropriate, and collecting data for reporting progress.
Participants must attend all sessions to receive credit.
