REWARDS Plus Reading and Writing Strategies Applied to Social Studies and Science Text for middle and high school students focuses on academic and content-area vocabulary, passages based on science and social studies topics, text-dependent comprehension questions requiring close reading and use of evidence, scaffolding higher order questions, and incorporates progress monitoring.
These are both intervention programs designed for students in middle and high school (grades 6-12) who have completed the REWARDS Intermediate or Secondary programs. REWARDS Plus programs increase multisyllabic word reading skills in more complex informational text, expands vocabulary knowledge and application, and develops students’ close reading and critical thinking skills. This program serves as a culmination of learned skills that generalize to the late-middle and high school educational demands by applying REWARDS word-attack strategies to social studies and science texts.
Participants enrolled in this course should have completed the REWARDS Intermediate or Secondary training as a prerequisite to REWARDS Plus.
