Region 13 is excited to offer Lexia LETRS https://www.lexialearning.com/letrs training as a pathway to a Structured Literacy Dyslexia Specialist certification. The C-SLDS certification is included in the Texas Education Agency’s Dyslexia Handbook. For more details, refer to the 2024 update.
Lexia LETRS program is an International Dyslexia Association (IDA) Accredited Program, providing rigorous, standards-based preparation aligned with the Knowledge and Practice Standards (KPS) for Teachers of Reading.
Structured Literacy is an approach to reading instruction that is beneficial for both general education students at risk for reading difficulties due to a variety of factors and for students with disabilities.
This approach is characterized by the provision of systematic, explicit instruction that integrates listening, speaking, reading, and writing and emphasizes the structure of language across the speech sound system (phonology), the writing system (orthography), the structure of sentences (syntax), the meaningful parts of words (morphology), the relationships among words (semantics), and the organization of spoken and written discourse.
Participants will progress through both Volumes 1 and 2 of the Lexia LETRS, attend in-person learning days for each Unit 1-8, conduct a 36-weeks practicum with students, and complete a portfolio or case study documenting minimum practicum requirements to meet all CERI requirements for certification.

Upon successful completion of all requirements established by the Center for Effective Reading Instruction (CERI), participants are eligible to take the Knowledge and Practice Examination for Effective Reading Instruction (KPEERI). Passing the KPEERI exam leads to certification through CERI and gives you the opportunity to advance your teaching career and affirm your knowledge and skills in teaching literacy using a structured approach to language.
Please note: The final determination for the issuance of certificates is held solely by CERI. For additional details, visit EffectiveReading.org.
**Registration fee includes LETRS manuals and licenses. Registration fee does NOT cover exam or certification fees- particpants are responsible for any fees related to the KPEERI exam and CERI certification.
