This workshop aims to provide mental health practitioners, educators, and other community members with a comprehensive understanding of psychosis and delusions in teens. Through a combination of didactic lectures, interactive activities, and case studies, participants will learn effective strategies for supporting teens experiencing psychosis and delusions, as well as their parents and other external treatment providers. The workshop will cover topics such as recognizing early warning signs, building relationships and trust with teens, managing challenging behaviors, and collaborating with parents and outside treatment providers. Participants will leave with practical tools and skills to effectively engage and support teenagers in crisis, as well as their families and community partners.
Learning Objectives:
1. Identify the signs and symptoms of psychosis and delusions in teens, and understand the impact on their mental health and overall functioning.
2. Develop strategies for building relationships and trust with teens experiencing psychosis, and effectively communicate with them to de-escalate crisis situations.
3. Learn practical techniques for managing challenging behaviors, such as aggression and self-harm, and develop safety plans to prevent potential harm.
4. Explore ways to collaborate with parents and outside treatment providers to provide comprehensive and coordinated support for teens in crisis.
5. Gain knowledge on how to involve and support parents in the treatment and recovery process for their teenager.
6. Acquire a range of resources and tools to effectively manage and support teenagers with psychosis and delusions.
