Let’s grow students’ science knowledge by bridging science literacy and verbal reasoning!    In this workshop we will look at ways to transform passive reading into active, student-led academic discourse in the science classroom. Using a variety of texts aligned to the TEKS, participants will discover ways to support students in breaking down science information and explore strategies to promote student-to-student discussion.   Learning Objectives:

  • Learn about the benefits of integrating reading and student discourse into the science classroom experience
  • Discover ways to help students synthesize textual information
  • Explore strategies and scaffolds that support students with intentional conversations around texts
  • Examine tools for extending literacy and discourse into writing
