Math Moves: Instructional Routines for Grades 6-Algebra I
ESC Region 13
6.00 CPE Credits
$100.00

Transform your mathematics classroom with high-impact instructional routines that promote mathematical reasoning, discourse, collaboration, and problem-solving. In this interactive workshop, educators serving Grades 6–Algebra I will experience and analyze a variety of instructional routines designed to engage students in making sense of mathematics, communicating their thinking, and developing deep conceptual understanding.

Participants will also explore the eight Mathematical Language Routines (MLRs) and discover how these research-based strategies support sense-making, optimize communication of mathematical ideas and reasoning, cultivate meaningful mathematical conversations, and maximize students' meta-awareness. Through hands-on experiences and collaborative learning, teachers will learn how the MLRs can support all learners in developing academic language, participating in rich mathematical discourse, and accessing rigorous grade-level content.

Teachers will leave equipped with practical strategies and ready-to-use routines that foster student thinking, amplify student voice, and create more inclusive mathematics learning environments.

Learning Objectives

Participants will:

• Experience instructional routines that promote mathematical reasoning, discourse, collaboration, and problem-solving.

• Explore the eight Mathematical Language Routines and their role in supporting sense-making, optimizing communication, cultivating conversation, and maximizing meta-awareness.

• Discuss how instructional routines and MLRs can increase student engagement and participation in mathematics classrooms.
