Coaches need coaches.

Instructional Coaching Foundations Virtual is a self-paced course designed for instructional coaches, instructional specialists, teacher leaders, administrators, and coaching teams who want to build a strong foundation for impactful coaching practices. Whether you are beginning your coaching journey, onboarding a new coaching team, or recalibrating coaching language and practices across a district or campus, this course provides the flexibility to learn anytime, anywhere while developing a shared understanding of effective instructional coaching.

Grounded in contemporary coaching research and influenced by the work of Jim Knight, Joellen Killion, Diane Sweeney, Steve Barkley, Elena Aguilar, Michael Bungay Stanier, and others, participants will explore the essential skills and conditions necessary for coaching to thrive. Special emphasis is placed on developing practical coaching skills including active listening, paraphrasing, questioning, goal setting, feedback practices, and the use of research-based coaching cycles to support teacher growth and reflective practice.

Participants will:

  • Explore foundational coaching roles, approaches, and coaching cycles
  • Strengthen coaching skills including active listening, paraphrasing, questioning, goal setting, and feedback
  • Examine the conditions necessary to build a strong coaching culture
  • Build common coaching language and practices across teams
  • Apply learning to authentic coaching scenarios and reflection
