Assessment specialists are faced with new challenges, especially when making eligibility decisions, in the utilization of the latest editions of our cognitive assessment tools. This one day workshop covers the administration and interpretation of the Differential Ability Scale-II (DAS-II). The DAS-II assesses a student's cogitive abilities and includes verbal and nonverbal subtests that evaluate specific processing abilities, expressive and receptive language comprehension, memory, and learning. This workshop will offer a better understanding in how to use the flexible DAS II model of interpretation which allows for either a CHC or a Luria process model. This workshop provides information about the DAS-II (for children ages 2.5 through17.11) including: how to use of out-of-level testing to evaluate lower functioning students, new diagnostic subtests that evaluate various types of memory and reading prerequisites, as well as use of DAS-II with Spanish-speaking students and with deaf or hearing-impaired students. The link with the new WIAT III will also be investigated.
