This course includes information on typical speech development in bilingual children for many different languages (i.e., English and Spanish, Arabic/Farsi, Urdu, Mandarin/Cantonese, Tagalog, and Vietnamese). Similarities and differences in the sound systems of the languages are discussed with emphasis on how those differences are often reflected in the bilingual child. A framework is provided to evaluate expected errors versus atypical errors. Cultural, linguistic, and practical considerations are discussed with respect to working with interpreters. 2.0 TSHA CEUs pending.
