K-2 Home on the Range: Learning About Our Habitat

Welder Wildlife Foundation is providing free one day field based workshops on its new Rangelands curriculum.  Workshop participants will receive the complete field and lab based conservation education curriculum guide.  The Rangeland guide contains 27 student-centered lessons using hands-on, real world science and social studies investigations. The curriculum focuses on science and integrates Social Studies, while utilizing language arts and math skills.  All applicable TEKS, from the four core contents, are documented with each lesson.

Lessons include investigations of soil, water, plants, wildlife, ecology, stewardship and ecosystem services. For more information visit www.welderwildlife.org or email Dr. Sandra Johnson at Dr_S_JOHNSON@hotmail.com.

This workshop is  Building Professional Development.

  • Building Professional Development extends; the learning experiences are designed to build upon core knowledge and practices experienced teachers have.  Workshops continue to focus on high quality Tier 1 instruction and some Tier 2 intervention with supporting instructional strategies and may connect disciplines and the instructional strategies that support this integration.

Participants should dress comfortably.

Come take part in science investigations and field experiences, use role playing and models, and play games to make science fun and interesting as students explore the world around them. This free workshop for K-2nd grade teachers will be held at Region XIII. The workshop uses an integrated supplemental curriculum guide developed by Welder Wildlife Foundation to help teach students the importance of taking care of our world.

The curriculum focuses on science, integrates social studies, and uses language arts and math skills. All of the new core TEKS are documented as appropriate with each activity.  Lessons include investigations of soil, water, plants, wildlife and habitat. Participating teachers will receive the complete curriculum guide. These lessons use hands-on, real life, science and social studies skills and provide activities for multiple intelligences.  Lessons are written to help students use higher order thinking skills and demonstrate learning in creative products and performances.  Activities are inexpensive and easy to use.  Teachers will receive CPE credit and the workshop is eligible for district G/T credit.
