Literacy is the foundation to all learning. Building a strong foundation in literacy for every child is the responsibility of all teachers. That can be a daunting task but it is one of the most rewarding experiences a teacher can have. The Strengthening Tier 1 Reading Instruction Series is designed to provide teachers with the tools needed to build a solid foundation across all five components of reading and provide research based strategies to address response to intervention (RTI) in the area of reading. Come prepared to be an active participant, bring your team to discuss how to implement the learning directly into your classroom, and build the strongest foundation possible by attending all sessions. This will be a defining year in your quest to teach every student to read!
The teaching strategies are particularly geared toward teachers of students in K-2. Strategies may be appropriately adapted for those teachers providing reading intervention at higher grade levels.
Many teachers know that their small group time is an important component of the reading block. They also know that the small group lessons should be targeted and research-based; however, many wonder what strategies are the most appropriate according to research. Participants in this course will learn research-based strategies to address a number of reading difficulties that young children possess as well as ideas for tracking progress.
The participant fee for the remainder of the Spring 2014 workshops is generously funded by a Texas Literacy Initiative (TLI) grant.
