Visible Learning Mini-Conference
In the Visible Learning mini-conference, participants will learn from two Visible Learning consultants, Dr. Cathy Lassiter and Olivia Amador-Valerio, who work with John Hattie. Dr. Hattie defines teacher competence as how they think about student learning, their impact on learning. In the morning, we will talk about the mind frames teachers have about student learning which is critical for improving learning.  In the afternoon, they will present break-out sessions on some of the high impact strategies identified in Hattie's research and in Nancy Frey and Doug Fisher's Visible Learning and Literacy book.

What are the teacher behaviors or mindframes that help them teach for success? John Hattie's research on instructional strategies that make an impact on learning shows that one of the most important influences on student achievement is how teachers think about their teaching and their own role in impacting the student learning.

During the one-day Visible Learning conference, Dr. Cathy Lassiter, a Visible Learning consultant and author of The Secrets and Simple Truths of High-Performing School Cultures, will be the keynote speaker in the morning. She'll present the 10 mindframes of teachers from Dr. Hattie's research and how to influence those in order to ensure the successful learning of all students. Any school trying to implement high impact instructional strategies have to consider how teachers are thinking about their work. Participants will learn how to implement Hattie's mindframes to maximize student success.

In the afternoon, there will be breakout sessions on creating self-confident or assessment capable learners. We will focus our attention on the learning rather than the teaching.
